DENVER SCHOOL-BASED HEALTH CENTERS |
SERVICES
Services through the school based clinic program are provided by midlevel practitioners and physicians employed by Denver Health; school nurses and social workers from Denver Public Schools; therapists from Denver Mental Health Corporation and alcohol
and drug counseling in high school clinics provided by staff of Arapahoe House, a private non-profit corporation which furnishes
alcohol and drug counseling, funded by the Office of Safe & Drug Free Schools & Communities.
These agencies as well as other organizations, including Children's Hospital and the University Health Sciences Center comprise the Denver School Health Coordinating Council.
The Council members collaborate in providing direction and
management to the DSBHC Program and leadership in providing all health services to all school-aged children in Denver.
Services at the SBHCs vary, but, in all cases, consist of primary health care services to chldren who are enrolled in the program by their parents or legal guardians. Medical practitioners treat routine acute medical conditions such as strep and ear
infections, and chronic conditions such as asthma. Lab tests are provided by the Denver Health Center Laboratory as required. Pharmacy support is furnished by Children's Hospital.
