DENVER SCHOOL-BASED HEALTH CENTERS |
Mission and Purpose
The overarching mission of the Denver School-Based Health Clinics (DSBHC) is to develop, test and disseminate alternative approaches to delivering a broad range of primary preventive health services to school-age children and youth within the school
setting that will serve as a model for Denver, the state of Colorado and the nation.
The DSBHC operates within the context of the public schools' educational mission, and intends to contribute to restructuring the response of education to better meet the needs of today's children and youth.
Project Goals
- To introduce and strengthen physical and mental health-enhancing behaviors among students attending targeted Denver schools, while eliminating or reducing health-compromising behaviors.
- To establish community involvement at all levels of the program, including planning, fund raising, implementation, evaluation and replication.
- To improve the service system delivering primary health care services to school-age children and youth, increasing affordable, accessible and appropriate primary health services available in targeted schools for the promotion of physical,
psychological, educational, social and personal health.
